What is Infrared?

Far Infrared Light (felt as heat) is the invisible healing portion of the sun’s light. This spectrum includes near, mid and far infrared wavelengths. These wavelengths of light have the ability to penetrate human tissue producing a host of health benefits. Full spectrum infrared is the light that is used to warm newborns and is very safe. The heat feels like the natural warmth of sunbathing.

How is it different than a regular sauna?

A Full Spectrum Infrared Sauna differs from traditional saunas in the way it heats your body temperature and offers unique healing benefit. Traditional saunas heat the outside air and surface heat your body. The Infrared sauna heats your core to 100 degrees. This increased body temperature for short duration facilitates your body’s natural healing capabilities and feels wonderful.

What is Chromotherapy?

We all know that light is composed of colors. Along with colors, light also consists of chemical and emotional elements since it emits heat, electricity and magnetism. Thus, light, along with its component colors, can be used for healing the mind, body and spirit. This is the basic principle behind Chromotherapy or color therapy. Chromotherapy is the science of using colors to adjust body vibrations to frequencies that result in health and harmony. Each color possesses frequencies of a specific vibration, and each vibration is related to different physical symptoms. Our bodies need the sun's light to live. Please see our Chromotherapy page for more details on this service.

How does the Infrared Sauna aid in detoxification?

Infrared Saunas are unlike conventional saunas which pull sweat out of the body. Far Infrared energy penetrates up to 1.5 inches into the tissues and PUSHES sweat out of the body. As the body is heated from the inside out, it forces toxins under the skin out. The temperature of a far infrared sauna is typically between 90 - 120 degrees F, versus a traditional sauna which operates between 180 - 220 degees F. However, despite operating at a lower temperature, you will typically perspire far more in infrared saunas because the infrared energy penetrates your body at a much deeper level.

Studies have shown that the detoxification potential of a far infrared sauna is three times greater than a regular sauna. When analyzing the water content of sweat in a traditional hot air sauna it was 95-97%. Conversely the water content of sweat in a far infrared sauna is about 80-85%. The remaining 15-20% contains toxic substances such as lead, aluminum and fluoride. Far infrared saunas help rid your body of potential carcinogenic heavy metals such as mercury and lead, as well as alcohol, nicotine, sodium, sulfuric acid and cholesterol.

Fat becomes water soluble at 109 degrees F. When it begins to dissolve, it moves through the blood and finally is removed from the body, resulting in weight loss. New research is showing added benefits for chronic Lyme’s disease, by heating the body regularly, it supports immune function fighting off chronic bacterial infections.

How does the infrared sauna improve circulation?

Infrared saunas induce deep sweats allowing your heart to pump faster. The heat increases blood flow throughout the body and lowers blood pressure as well as increases circulation. Regular infrared sauna use has been proven to also decrease edema, improve peripheral circulation and improves inflammatory conditions.

How does the infrared sauna contribute to weight loss?

A regular 30-minute infrared sauna session can burn upwards of 300 to 600 calories while you relax! The body’s metabolic rate increases as the body works to cool itself, burning more calories with little effort. Combined with a healthy life style program, weight loss becomes easier and fun. Regular use also helps decrease the appearance of cellulite trapped beneath the skin.

How does the infrared sauna change the appearance of cellulite?

Far Infrared heat can assist in breaking down cellulite. Cellulite is a gel-like substance made up of fat, water, and wastes which are trapped in pockets below the skin. Profuse sweating helps clear this form of unwanted debris from the body.

What is the role of the Infrared Sauna in pain relief?

Chronic pain involves inflammation. Inflammation can be improved with regular sauna use. Researchers studying (Heat Responsive Pain) have noted remarkable benefits by using continuous low level heat for the treatment of upper and lower body back pain, as well as joint pain and conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis and irritable bowel. By heating the tissues, we experience a vasodilatation of peripheral blood vessels which can be beneficial in reducing muscle spasms, joint stiffness and achiness, as well as general aches and pains. There is also evidence that when used 24-48 hours post injury, far infrared energy can reduce the time it takes for your body to heal sprains and strains. This is due to increased blood circulation which carries off metabolic waste products and delivers oxygen-rich blood to oxygen-depleted muscle, so they recover faster. Muscles relax most readily when tissues are warm, for greater flexibility and range of motion.

How does the Infrared Sauna support relaxation?

The American Institute of Stress estimates that 75-90% of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress-related problems. Long-term stress can lead to high blood pressure, weight gain, and weakening of the immune system. Increased circulation triggers the release of endorphins, loosening tight muscles and making you feel better all over. Infrared saunas help you relax leaving you feeling refreshed every time, relaxing the mind, body spirit.

What is the Infrared Sauna’s role in cell health?

Stimulating the circulatory system the infrared therapy fully oxygenates the body’s cells. The better your blood circulates the better your cell health will be. It also opens the nasal passages and assist the sinuses to drain. Raising the body temperature causes infections to heal more quickly. Hyperthermia or fever therapy help combat infections and even cancer. Our bodies develop fever when ill to enhance metabolism and help kill germs. By raising the body temperature by one to three degrees, a far infrared sauna session mimics a fever, which triggers an immune system response and enables the body to fight bacteria and viruses.

How does the infrared sauna improve skin problems?

This is at the base of anti-aging technology. Regular use has been shown to increase the production on collagen that prevents wrinkles making skin look radiant with improved skin tone and increased elasticity. The profuse sweating achieved after just a few minutes in an infrared sauna carries off deeply embedded impurities and dead skin cells, leaving the skin glowing and immaculately clean. Increased circulation draws the skin's own natural nutrients to the surface. This has also been shown to relieve acne, eczema, psoriasis, burns, lesions, scarring and cuts.

How does the infrared sauna improve flexibility and range of motion?

An infrared sauna is perfect as a "heat therapy room" for athletes looking for a pre-workout warm-up to warm up muscles and increase flexibility, helping to prevent injury. It's also ideal for pre-warm-up for physical therapy and massage therapy, or for a relaxing, wind-down at the end of a stress-filled day.
